The female approach to life

‘the emotional body tries to contain the emotions. It can never do that, it has not been made for that. It would lead to rigidity. The emotional body needs a stable anchor, and emotions themselves are fluid, so they cannot supply that. The emotional body will try to find hold in anything that seems to offer stability- until you develop your neutral mind.'
On hearing these words tears stream over my face. I feel recognition. I realise what a gift it is to be sitting here and to hear these teachings.
I knew all along that i needed to be here in the workshop of Guru Rattana on kundalinu yoga. But I thought I was coming to bring something rather than receive. I came to honour and thank this teacher, for she had brought me a vital key in the process of developing the priestess training program.
it was around 2004 and i downloaded some yoga exercises and did them in my living room. They felt right and i knew i had found my instrument to develop the strength to deal with strong energies. To learn more I went to a teacher in nearby Amsterdam. But everything felt wrong. Deep disappointment came over me. Everything felt too fast, too little time to digest. I missed a sense of connectedness, either with us pupils or with the energy of the moment. I was not conscious of what was happening, just felt unhappy. The interesting thing was, I drew the conclusion that my expectations were at fault. I forgot on the spot what had touched me originally and settled with what everyone else seemed to be doing.
The magic was gone. I went on with the yoga, and learned what I needed to know about working with strong energies. After the need was gone I stopped with this type of yoga, but I never forgot what it had brought me. I like to honour the milestones on my path, so when I received the mail saying that Guru Rattana was coming to Amsterdam, I decided to go there and thank her.
Right from the start there is a sense of relief and homecoming. Attention for everyone, attunement. Time for integration, beautiful metaphors. I love this one: ‘draw the chin in so to make space for the heart. Let the head bow for the heart.'
Guru Rattana: ‘in the seventies when kundalini yoga came to the west there was time after every exercise to relax and integrate. After a series, there was more time to enjoy and be thankful for this opportunity for growth and transformation. Nowadays this is often skipped. This means you are continuously in the do- mode, just like in the rest of your hurried life. From one kick to the next, from one experience to another. Basically, this is the inner male shoving the inner female aside, and we know that, don´t we? We also know the price we pay. The way out is simple: the inner female is saved by paying attention to your body and your energy during and after the exercise. Find your neutral mind, make place for the emotions and energies, and then contain them! This way you wake the inner flow. The inner female.'
I nod to myself. I remember that this was the tone and energy of the texts that had drawn me in to kundalini yoga. Thanks to my own process in the past years I recognize now what is before me: a spiritual path based on female values.
I smile. This is exactly what i have been developing the past years. I thought I was alone, but i am not and i never was.
Guru rattana and i embrace when we say goodbye. Like sisters each walking the same path in their own way. We are never alone. And there are many more of us bringing back the female to all aspects of life.
