Midwinter: break with old patterns. 3 Tips.
Posted: 2010-01-02 12:55:31
At midwinter the Earth ends a cycle. A perfect moment to break with old patterns and bring more wholeness into your life, the more so as now we have a waxing moon. A ritual will add strength to this process.
3 tips:
1 Say goodbye with love
Become aware what pattern you would like to free yourself from. Name it. Make a symbol for it- a drawing, something nature gives to you, a clay sculpture etc. invoke memories of moments of beauty this pattern has brought you. Through honouring the pattern you choose positivity and create space. You can compare this to the Tarot card of the Fool: the Fool comes to the top of a hill and knows the old pad ends, She is open to something new but also frightened. When her attention is diverted for a moment. She is drawn back. By naming the pattern and chanting for it the powers of the unconscious are being drawn in to aid the conscious resolve for change.
In the ritual place the symbol on your altar, share the memories out loud, let emotions flow and chant for the you that you were.
2 discover the reverse side of the pattern
The biggest risk in this process is that the old will come back in through the backdoor. You can compate this with the Fool who stops doing what she always did but does not yet trust the new. With a feeling somewhat like; ‘OK then let everything go to pieces' she throws herself into the chasm. And indeed everything goes to pieces. Falls apart, explodes. With much pain for everyone involved. You have stepped into the trap of living the opposite of your pattern. For example, before there was adapting and now demanding. From outside it seems a big difference, but on the inner level you are still caught in the same pattern, only now in a different position.
In the ritual turn your circle into a yin yang symbol and experiment with standing in both positions. Keep giving voice to what you experience through drum, chant, dance etc.
3 Trust and surrender
The third and most hopeful option for the Fool is: step over the edge in full trust that unknown powers will appeat to be the wind under your wings. In the example; don't adjust, don't demand, don't walk out but stay in contact and speak your heart and your experience. This way you give yourself the chance to experience what love can do for you. this way you truly step out of the pattern of adjusting and demanding and something new can take it's place.
In the ritual feel the midwinter alignment of earth and sun. feel your love for yourself. Know that there is no need to already know what will come next. Step out of the yin yang symbol. Allow all sensations and feelings to come up and to ebb away again. Be in the space between the old and the new. Feel the waxing moon and your love for yourself. Hum and drum for yourself and let grow whatever wants to grow.
